The Booth Company (TBC), a global assessment company with over 4 decades of experience, specializing in 360 degree feedback and survey customization, has 4 surveys featured in the recently published “Feedback to Managers: A Guide to Reviewing and Selecting Multirater Instruments for Leadership Development.”

The 4th edition of the book “Feedback to Managers: A Guide to Reviewing and Selecting Multirater Instruments for Leadership Development” written by CCL’s Director of Applied Research Services, Jean Brittain Leslie, features an in-depth look at 35 different instruments. This is the 4th time that TBC’s surveys have been featured in the Feedback to Managers publication dating back to 1978. Each instrument report includes descriptive information, a look at the research behind each instrument and outlines the criteria determined valuable in selecting a tool valid for organizations wanting to develop their leaders and organizational members through the use of 360 feedback assessments.

The four tools selected from TBC for review include: the ELS (Executive Leadership Survey) ideal for top-level executives, the SLP now known as the LEQ (Leadership EQ) ideal for any professional responsible for initiating and leading change, the LCM (Leadership Competencies for Managers) intended for first-line managers and middle managers, and the SMP (Survey of Management Practices) ideal for managers at all levels, from first-line supervisors to top management.

“We are excited to have four of our surveys featured in this publication,“ explains TBC CEO Derek Murphy, “there are so many tools on the market that claim to have the ability to accurately measure leadership behavior, guided by the necessary competencies to coach and train around. It is good to have a research guide that organizations can rely on in order to find proven assessment solutions for development.”

The ELS, LEQ, LCM and SMP surveys are all built around the Task Cycle® methodology, which was developed in 1973 by 360 degree feedback pioneer and American organizational psychologist Dr. Clark L. Wilson. “In essence, the Task Cycle is a leveraged sequence model that helps both the participant and their coach to prioritize what’s most important to focus on in their development plan,” explains Derek Murphy.

Of course, reliable content is only half the battle these days. Equally important is a well-designed, intuitive, online platform. A positive user experience for the participants, raters, and administrators is critical to a successful assessment initiative. “We have come a long way since administering paper surveys back in the 70’s,” explains Tom Kuhne, Managing Partner and CTO of TBC, “today organizations not only need a reliable survey but they also require a flexible and easy-to-use online portal, complete with automated email reminders, to streamline the entire process.” TruScore® is designed to be compatible with a broad range of assessments, making it an ideal platform for independently authored surveys, custom surveys, corporate university content, as well as TBC’s line of validated assessments.
